Dogs shot and killed in backyard of house in Maricopa

MARICOPA, AZ - A family in Maricopa says two of their dogs have been shot and killed in their backyard within the last few weeks.

“I can’t imagine anyone shooting a dog,” said Taleanna Jenkins. “I can’t imagine for any reason that you’d shoot a dog. Especially a little four-pound Yorkie.”

On Sunday, police say the family’s one-year-old Yorkie was in the backyard when it was shot with a BB gun. It died in the house just a few minutes later.

“He was very sweet,” said Taleanna’s daughter, Emily. “I don’t know why anyone would do this to him.”

Two weeks before that, the Jenkins’ eight-year-old bulldog was found dead in a pool of blood in their backyard.

“It was horrifying,” said Emily.

Outside the front of their house, the family has written a message to the dog killer on the back window of their car. It says “You could have talked to me, you could have written a letter, you could have called the police… you didn’t have to MURDER a poor innocent PUPPY.”

“Just come talk to me,” said Taleanna Jenkins. “We would have taken care of it.”

The Jenkins admit their dogs’ barking is obnoxious, but say nothing justifies shooting their beloved pets.

“This should never happen to anyone ever again,” said Emily. “I just want them caught.”

To make matters worse, the previous homeowners say their chocolate lab Marley was shot in the head and killed in the same backyard three years ago.

Maricopa police are asking the public to let them know if they have any information that could lead to an arrest.
