FLORENCE, AZ - Officials in Florence are looking for an escaped inmate who was found guilty of abusing and killing a young child in 2007.
Jose Lopez, found guilty of first degree murder and child abuse, is being sought by Pinal County officials after fleeing before the end of his trial.
Pinal County Superior Court put out a warrant for his arrest after Lopez, 26, went missing, according to a news release.
Lopez was found guilty of seriously injuring his fiancée's 21-month-old baby girl Mia Alvarez while he was babysitting her and her siblings on July 4, 2007.
The child died a few days later from her injuries.
Lopez must serve a 35-year sentence for the first degree murder of a young child and another consecutive 17-year sentence for child abuse.
He will be scheduled in Pinal County Superior Court once he is located.
Officials say that Lopez is 5 feet 10 inches tall and weights 200 pounds. He has brown hair.
