FLORENCE, AZ - A 20-year-old man, who authorities say accidentally shot and killed his 19-year-old girlfriend, was booked into the Pinal County Jail for negligent homicide Tuesday.
According to a report from the Pinal County Sheriff's Office, just before 7 p.m. Monday, the two were sitting in Ramiro Delcid's company work truck at Red Rock Feeding near Hollis Road and Coachway Road when he tried to scare his girlfriend by pointing what he thought was an unloaded gun at her and pulling the trigger.
Shortly after the bullet struck her in the chest, Delcid contacted police, PCSO said.
When PCSO deputies and medical personnel arrived on scene, the victim was pronounced deceased.
Delcid told PCSO homicide detectives that he had unloaded the .38 caliber pistol just moments before the accident and believed there were no bullets remaining in the gun.
"This case is a tragic reminder of how quickly a life can be taken by those who handle firearms irresponsibly," said Sheriff Paul Babeu.
