Florence man Danny Davis arrested for shooting at 4 people with possible racist motive

FLORENCE, AZ - An evidentiary hearing was scheduled Wednesday for a man who allegedly shot at four individuals with potentially racist intentions in Pinal County.

At 11:50 a.m. Monday, the Pinal County Sheriff's Office responded to shots fired at a construction site in the Magma Ranch housing development section of Florence.

Three construction workers and a sheriff's deputy were shot at but not hit, according to the Pinal County Attorney's Office.

Nearby deputies located Danny Davis, 53, who matched the description of suspect.

According the Pinal County Sheriff's Office, Davis, who showed signs of alcohol impairment, told the deputies "he was angry about the minorities working in the area."

Davis was arrested and booked into the Pinal County Detention Center on one count of attempted first degree murder and one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Although Davis is presumed innocent until proven guilty, Pinal County Attorney Voyles said, "Crimes stemming from racial motivations are intolerable in our society, and if crimes meet the statutory requirements of being a hate crime, my office will certainly respond to the fullest extent of the law."
