FLORENCE, AZ - An officer with the Arizona Department of Corrections surrendered Thursday morning telling police he had shot and killed a person, according to the Florence Police Department.
A Florence police sergeant saw a suspicious person walking in the back parking lot of the police department, police said. As the officer spoke to the man, the man said that police needed to arrest him because he had shot someone.
The man, later identified as Alexander A. Santiago, 41, was arrested. Santiago has been a corrections officer since 2011, according to the Department of Corrections.
Officers responded to a residence near 8th and Park streets and found a woman with a single gunshot wound to the head. She was identified as 61-year-old Sean M. Lafitte.
Florence police detectives and the Pinal County Attorney's Office are both investigating.
