CASA GRANDE, AZ - Authorities say a man has died after he was struck by a train in Casa Grande Friday morning.
Thomas Anderson with the Casa Grande Police Department said that at around 7:45 a.m. an empty Union Pacific cargo train was traveling westbound through Casa Grande when the conductor saw a person standing on the railroad tracks and wasn't able to stop the train before hitting and killing the victim.
The victim is an approximately 34-year-old male.
Anderson said it wasn't immediately known if the victim is a resident of Casa Grande, a transient, or why he was standing on the tracks.
The incident happened in a heavily populated area of Casa Grande. No witnesses, other than the conductor, were found.
Anderson said the investigation is expected to take several hours.
