John Brazel update: Man in Tempe shooting dies from self-inflicted gunshot wound

COOLIDGE, AZ - Pinal County Sheriff's office said the man wanted in connection to a shooting at a Tempe apartment complex has died after a chase and apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

According to the Pinal County Sheriff's Office, deputies spotted Brazel's truck early this morning near Marana.

Sheriff Paul Babeu tells ABC15 that Brazel took off, leading deputies on a high speed chase before they lost contact with him.

A security guard at the Salt River Project station near the Pinal County Fairgrounds spotted a truck on the property and notified deputies.

When deputies approached, they say he got back in the car and shot himself in the head.

Babeu said no shots were fired between deputies and Brazel.

Brazel’s car was located Wednesday evening in the orange groves located at Thomas Road and Val Vista in Mesa, Tempe police Sgt. Mike Pooley said.

Authorities said Brazel and the woman were arguing prior to the shooting. A neighbor tried to intervene and was also shot. The neighbor was taken to a local hospital. Brazel fled after the shooting.
