CASA GRANDE, AZ - Westbound traffic on Interstate 10 south of Phoenix is flowing again Friday night after being delayed and detoured because of a serious crash involving two semi trucks and a pickup truck.
The collision occurred around 10 a.m. Friday north of Casa Grande. Authorities advised Phoenix-bound motorists to expect serious delays and to consider alternative routes.
The westbound lanes reopened shortly before 10 p.m.
Arizona Department of Public Safety spokesman Carrick Cook said a Ford F250 was traveling eastbound when one of its tires separated.
The driver lost control and crossed over to the westbound lanes before hitting the semi truck head-on.
The pickup truck driver is in serious condition at Maricopa Medical Center.
In total, a pickup truck and two semi trucks were involved. The drivers of the semi trucks are OK, said Cook.
Acid was being transported in one of the semi trucks, which spilled in the crash, Cook said.
Cook said the long closure was due to the dangerous nature of the acid and the cleanup process.
