CASA GRANDE, AZ - When Casa Grande resident Sarah Lamb heard that the family of 13-year old Aniarael Macias was putting together a car wash fundraiser in her memory today, she wanted to help out in a different way.
"I heard that the family had been working on organizing the car wash this morning and asked if I could do something along the lines of a bake sale," Lamb said.
Selling cupcakes, cookies and fudge, she's donating 100 percent of today's proceeds to any funeral costs for the teenager who was found dead in her family's home on Christmas Day . Casa Grande police are investigating Aniarael's death and are awaiting the results of an autopsy.
Lamb has known the teenager's mother for the past two years through different community groups.
"As I've told many people, you never want to see a mother or father lose their own child," Lamb said.
Irma Maciel came all the way from Coolidge to donate, saying that the story hit close to home.
"I have a 13-year-old granddaughter that I'm raising myself, so it really throws that extra touch into my heart," Maciel said.
And in a small town where everyone knows everyone, Lamb says everyone is coming together to help the family get through this tough time.
"We still have that sense of, I guess family almost. When we need to, we treat each other like family," said Lamb.
Lamb said the bake sale raised more than $1,500 this morning.
