WICHITA FALLS, TX - A 23-year-old woman who was unaware she was pregnant delivered her baby in the bathroom at Murphy’s Gas Station on Archer City Highway, but the infant later died upon arrival at Cook Children’s Hospital in Fort Worth.
Wichita Falls Police responded to the incident Thursday night after a woman pumping gas started feeling ill. She went in the bathroom and delivered the baby in the toilet and yelled for help, according to public information officer Brandie Banda. Police and first responders responded to the check welfare call at 1530 Archer City Highway just before 9 p.m. and an ambulance rushed the baby to the emergency room at United Regional Hospital.
Police said the infant was breathing when they responded, but the woman was only 28-weeks pregnant.
The newborn was taken to Cook Children’s in Fort Worth, but was pronounced dead about 4 a.m. when they arrived at the hospital.
The woman told police she was not aware she was pregnant. The WFFD is investigating the incident.
