White House lockdown update: Charge dismissed in White House car incident

WASHINGTON - Prosecutors have dismissed a misdemeanor charge against a man who drove behind a motorcade carrying President Barack Obama's daughters through the White House gates.

Online records for D.C. Superior Court show that the charge of unlawful entry against 55-year-old Mathew Goldstein of Mitchellville, Maryland, was dropped on June 20.

According to charging documents, Goldstein was closely following the last car in a Secret Service motorcade on May 6 when he drove through a gate and past a large "do not enter" sign onto a restricted part of the White House grounds.

Bill Miller, spokesman for Superior Court, tells The Washington Post that prosecutors dropped the charge after an investigation and a review of the evidence.

Thomas Hartnett, Goldstein's lawyer, told The Post he was happy the case was dismissed.
