The Tesla Model S, an “electric luxury car,” was named the best overall vehicle by Consumer Reports in its annual “Top Picks” for 2014, announced Tuesday.
Consumer Reports “Top Picks” include vehicles from eight car companies in 10 categories. Subaru and Honda both made the list twice.
Four new winners came into Consumer Reports’ spotlight this year: the Tesla Model S, Subaru Forester, Hyundai Santa Fe and Ram 1500.
“Top Picks” must receive high rankings in test performance, reliability and safety, according to Consumer Reports.
“Sure, you can talk about this electric luxury car’s blistering acceleration, razor-sharp handling, compliant ride and versatile cabin, which can fit a small third-row seat,” Consumer Reports wrote in its review of the car. “But that just scratches the surface of this technological tour de force. The Tesla is brimming with innovation.”
The car clocks in at $89,650 – and includes internet access, zero carbon emissions and a 225-mile driving range, according to Consumer Reports.
