Stray pit bull 'Joanie' carries injured Chihuahua 'Chachi' in her mouth, now duo needs new home

Unfortunately, stray animals roam the streets around the country, and if they're lucky, they're able to be rescued and adopted to a loving family.

One pit bull in Georgia was rescued from the streets with a special, tiny friend in tow and now both are looking for a home together.

According to the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department , the dog had been carrying around a Chihuahua mix who was suffering from an uncomfortable eye problem.

Reports say the pit bull would walk around town with the Chihuahua in her mouth and would set him down and lick his painful eye to make him feel better.

The duo, now named Jonie and Chachi, were picked up and taken in by the local animal control.

Chachi's ruptured eye was removed and is now healing, and Jonie was able to reconnect in the shelter with her miniature best friend.

According to the department's Facebook page, when the two saw each other again they were clearly very happy.

"It's not every day we get to see such devotion between two special dogs like this," said Animal Control Officer Christina Sutherin, on the Facebook page.

"They are both such sweet animals. But the relationship they share just sets them apart. It would be wonderful if we could find a home that could take both of them. But that is not always possible."

As of a few days ago, Jonie and Chachi have been cleared for adoption and are waiting for a family to, they hope, bring them both home together.

Several Facebook users have offered to pledge money if they are adopted together and have inquired about adoption costs to bring them both home, but it is unknown if the pair has been adopted.
