NEW YORK - Sam Champion's last day on ABC's "Good Morning America" included tears and laughter Wednesday.
On Monday, ABC announced Champion will leave the network and head south to Atlanta, where he will appear as a host on The Weather Channel and serve as managing editor.
His last day with ABC News was Wednesday.
During his last hours on "GMA", his co-hosts showed Champion's "best moments" and funny highlights throughout his seven years on the morning show.
The weather anchor joined GMA in 2006 and first became part of the ABC family at WABC New York in 1988.
Champion wished meteorologist Ginger Zee the best, as she will take over his weather duties on "GMA" and across ABC News.
"Please join me in thanking Sam for his friendship and countless contributions to our news division," said ABC News President Ben Sherwood. "And let's all wish him the very best and say so long for now."
