Obama pushes for minimum wage hike in economy remarks

WASHINGTON - President Barack Obama on Wednesday called for a raise in the federal minimum wage, which currently stands at $7.25 an hour.

"It would be good for our economy. It would be good for our families," Obama said during a speech in Washington.

He said this would be one way to empower workers -- part of what he called his multistep "roadmap" to reduce inequality in the United States.
