Pay It Forward Day is Thursday, April 24, but one Indianapolis man decided to celebrate a little early.
Ryan Cox chose to pay off overdue lunch accounts for families who haven't yet been able to pay the school.
A cafeteria supervisor told Ryan the full amount that needed paid, which ended up being about $1,200.
Cox told staff he would be back in a week to pay the debts and he stuck to his word.
He spread the word on social media and raised $1,000 in just five days.
On Cox's Twitter profile , he has been tweeting out messages saying that he was simply trying to spread the word to help others and do nice things for other people.
One of his messages said, "...Treat people well + do good...and great things happen."
Cox describes his experience paying it forward on his personal website which you can read here .
Pay It Forward Day 's website says anyone can pay it forward. Buy someone in line behind you a drink, help someone in need, give out compliments, fix something you see broken or anything else in between.
Have you ever paid it forward for someone else?
