Man claiming to be a doctor seen stalking, kissing unsuspecting Walmart shoppers

WINTER HAVEN, FL - Florida police have arrested a man accused of stalking and kissing unsuspecting women in Walmart.

Mario Augusto Medina, 67, of Lakeland, was arrested Friday and booked on charges of aggravated stalking and abuse of a disabled adult without great harm.

Investigators said they know of at least three cases so far in which Medina, seen in surveillance video, follows around women in their mid-50's.

Video obtained by ABC Action News shows a man dressed in a shirt and tie following a woman on a motorized scooter to a secluded area in the store.

Police said that's when he eventually grabbed her by the shoulders and kissed her on the lips.

"I believe it's not only bizarre, I believe it's criminal," said Chief Gary Hester of the Winter Haven Police Department.

Hester said the man sweet talks the women, telling them he's a Lakeland cardiologist, perhaps to get them to trust him.

They said the woman he forcibly kissed struggled to get him off of her.

"He attempted with this lady to try and get her to leave Walmart immediately with him. He also gave her some story about he had recently lost his wife and she looked just like his wife," Hester said.

Police said they know of three cases at the Walmart near Legoland in Winter Haven, including one woman who used her shopping cart to keep the man away.

They believe he also approached other women at a Bealls department store down the road.
