Secretary of State John Kerry said in a speech Tuesday that Americans have a right to be stupid, according to a report.
Yahoo.com reported that Kerry gave his speech to a group of German students during his first foreign trip as secretary of state.
According to Yahoo he told the student that in America, "you have a right to be stupid if you want to be."
He reportedly explained that America enjoys freedom of religion and freedom of speech and religious freedom and tolerance are key parts of American society.
According to Yahoo, Kerry told the students about his experiences as a young boy living in Germany with his diplomat father. He reportedly described sneaking across to East Berlin on his bike and described how sad the people were.
Yahoo reported that Kerry said that he still remembers how he felt seeing the difference between East and West Berlin.
