MUNSTER, IN - An official at a northwestern Indiana hospital where a man is being treated for a mysterious virus from the Middle East says preliminary test results show that none of the hospital employees who came into contact with the patient have tested positive for the illness.
Community Hospital chief medical information officer Dr. Alan Kumar also says none of the man's close family contacts have tested positive for Middle East Respiratory Syndrome, or MERS.
He says officials "have contained the exposure at this point" but remain vigilant.
The Indiana patient is the first American citizen diagnosed with MERS. He flew from Saudi Arabia to Chicago on April 24 and took a bus to Indiana.
The man went to the emergency room last Monday with a fever, cough and shortness of breath.
