HBO "Last Week Tonight" host John Oliver drove home a point Sunday night - political campaigns should not use songs without permission.

In his latest segment, Oliver, who also recaps last week's Republican National Convention, points out several campaigns that have used songs without his consent.

"Politicians have been appropriating pop music for as long as anyone could remember, over the years, Sarah Palin has gotten in trouble for using Heart's 'Barracuda,' John McCain was asked to stop using two John Mellencamp songs, the DNC was criticized by Cyndi Lauper for using 'True Colors,'" Oliver said.

McCain, who is seeking reelection to the U.S. Senate this November against a field that includes Republican Kelli Ward and Democrat Ann Kirkpatrick, did receive flack for using Mellencamp's music during his 2008 presidential run.

We have reached out to McCain's office for comment.
