Frozen pizza recall: NY firm recalls frozen pizzas due to E. coli outbreak

A company in Buffalo, NY is expanding a recall of frozen mini meals and snack items to more than 10.5 million pounds because they may be contaminated with E. coli O121, the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced Thursday.

Rich Products Corporation expanded the recall that covers all products produced at the company's Waycross, Ga. plant with best-buy dates ranging from January 1, 2013 to September 29, 2014, according to a news release from FSIS.

FSIS was told of a multi-state investigation of I. coli 0121 illnesses on March 19. So far the outbreak includes 24 cases in 15 states that led to seven hospitalizations with kidney failure.

So far cases have been reported in Michigan, Mississippi, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas, and Virginia.
