A former Arizona state legislator has pleaded not guilty to fatally shooting a man during a hunting trip near Juneau.

The Juneau Empire reports 53-year-old Mark De Simone entered the not guilty plea Monday in the death of 34-year-old Duilio Antonio "Tony" Rosales. He has been charged with first- and second-degree murder, manslaughter and criminally negligent homicide.

Rosales had been found dead May 15 by a member of the hunting party from two gunshots to the back of the head in Excursion Inlet.

Court documents say De Simone was seen drinking alcohol throughout the day and had told members of the group he shot Rosales.

De Simone resigned from the Arizona Legislature in 2008 after his arrest in a domestic dispute.

His murder trial is set for Aug. 22.
