As Denver Police Officer John Adsit was lying in the hospital in critical condition, someone stole his personal car.

Adsit has been hospitalized at Denver Health Medical Center since Dec. 3, when he and three other bicycle officers monitoring a protest of hundreds of students from Denver's East High School were hit by a driver who suffered a medical emergency.

The students were protesting a decision not to prosecute a police officer in Ferguson, Missouri in the death of an unarmed black man.

Adsit has undergone eight surgeries to repair crushed ribs, a punctured lung, severed arteries, multiple broken bones, skin and organ loss. He has also fought pneumonia, fever and infection, according to his family.

Saturday afternoon, Adsit's personal vehicle was stolen from the Towneplace Suites by Marriott Denver Downtown, which is across the street from the hospital.

The vehicle is a silver 2012 Hyundai Sonata, according to Denver Police.
