CA officers rescue Chihuahua from freeway median

WALNUT CREEK, CA - California officers helped rescue a brave Chihuahua off the I-680 freeway near Walnut Creek Friday.

According to the Contra Costa PIO Twitter page, the dog was found on top of the cement barrier between both lanes of traffic.

A photo posted showed one of the officers trying to coax the dog off the barrier to safety during busy traffic.

A local animal shelter reportedly took the dog into their care and she may already have a home lined up, according to the Contra Costa Animal Shelter Facebook page.

The dog is recovering and is being watched closely, but her initial condition seems to be OK.

An update Monday from the shelter said the little dog is slowly relaxing after her scary ordeal, but staff is helping her "overcome her fear."
