EL PASO, TX - U.S. Customs and Border Protection Officers seized 1,890 pounds of marijuana in 12 different seizures at El Paso area ports over the weekend.
“CBP officers remain vigilant using all their resources to identify and stop illegal activity at area ports of entry, “ said Hector Mancha, CBP El Paso Port Director. “The result was that almost one ton of marijuana did not make it to its intended destination.”
The largest amount of marijuana was confiscated early Friday evening at the Ysleta commercial cargo facility, CBP officials said.
An arriving cargo truck was selected for an X-ray exam and identified an anomaly in the sleeper portion of the vehicle, border officials said.
Four sealed wooden boxes were located in the sleeper area of the cab containing 352 bundles of marijuana inside.
The estimated street value of all the marijuana confiscated this weekend is $1,521,000, according to border officials.
