Barefoot burglar caught in tree

A burglary suspect was up a tree much of the night in Madison, Illinois. It all began around 9:50 Wednesday night. Authorities said the man is suspected of burglarizing homes in Jersey County and Granite City and they went to Madison to arrest him.

When they showed up the suspect went up into his attic, then climbed out onto his roof and got into the tree. He stayed there for nearly six hours.

A Granite City fire truck was brought in.

Witnesses said police tried to be friendly at first giving him water and electronic cigarettes.

Hours later they apparently had had enough and shined lights into the tree and pumped irritating music or sounds at the man. The barefoot suspect finally gave up and came down.

No one was hurt.

The man was taken to the Granite City Police Station.
