MONTPELIER, VT - An Arizona man is in Vermont to receive the Purple Heart medal his father earned when he was killed during World War II fighting on the island of Iwo Jima in the Pacific Ocean.

Harold Andreason, of Phoenix, will be presented the medal Friday during a ceremony along the Lake Champlain waterfront in Burlington.

The ceremony is being arranged by the organization Purple Hearts Reunited, a non-profit group founded by Vermont National Guardsman Zachariah Fike.

Since Fike began, he and his organization have returned more than 100 medals to servicemen or their families.

Andreason's father, U.S. Marine Pvt. George Harold Andreason, was killed in March 1945.

Andreason's medal was found among the belongings of an Oregon man who turned it over to Fike's organization.
