A bizarre mystery has Yavapai County Sheriff's Office deputies scratching their heads and pinching their noses.

Who is responsible for dumping bags of adult diapers in the Lake Montezuma area?

Area residents say the unusual activity has been going on for at least a year.

In many cases, the bags are dumped near the Beaver Creek Golf Course are on Montezuma Avenue.

Other times they're dumped near freeway entrance and exit ramps to the I-17 off Beaver Creek Road.

The Yavapai County Sheriff's Office reports the diapers are usually contained in plastic trash bags and dumped on the roadside.

Such activity is considered criminal littering and is obviously a health hazard resulting from exposure to human waste.

Deputies believe the person or people responsible toss the bags from a moving vehicle.

As a result, YCSO is asking area residents to be on the lookout for vehicles engaging in such activities and take note descriptions and license plate information for any such vehicle.

If you have any information on this crime, you're asked to contact the Yavapai County Sheriff's Office at 928-771-3260, or Yavapai Silent Witness at 800-932-3232.
