If you're trying to lose weight, some Valley doctors think they may have the answer: lizard spit.

Saliva from the Gila monster, a poisonous lizard indigenous to the Southwest, has been used to help diabetics control their blood sugar.  It’s an ingredient in the drug Byetta, which has been on the market for three years.

Now, the drug is helping diabetic patients lose weight.

Dr. Antonia Verso from Banner Health is part of a new study this month that hopes to analyze the effects of the drug on health and weight.
