UPDATE: Cat stuck betweens walls of Gilbert house removed safely

Construction crews continue to remove drywall from a new home in Gilbert where a stubborn cat is stuck between the walls and refuses to come out.

On Wednesday night, the cat was spotted by the homeowner, ABC15 Photojournalist Wayne Berkowitz.

He managed to snap pictures, but has yet to actually capture the cat.

Earlier in the day, crews took down all the drywall from the first floor of the home in search of the animal.

Crews say the cat likely got trapped behind the drywall near Higley and Germann during the construction process.

They've been trying to find that animal since Monday.

"What really got us was in the bathroom," said Berkowitz. "We heard a cat noise through the wall like it was standing right in front of you."

Wayne's new house came with numerous upgrades, tile floors and wood hand railings to name a few, but it seems his new home also came with a built-in cat.

"We just moved in, how many people have a cat stuck in the ceiling?" asked Berkowitz.

On Monday, a crew from K Hovnanian Homes cut four openings in the drywall to try to free the feline.

But so far it hasn't worked.

"That's frustrating," admitted Berkowitz. "Its a new house and it looks like a swiss cheese home."

They say there's more than one way to skin a cat. Berkowitz just hopes to find a way to catch one.

"We want the cat to be safe and OK but most of all, we want it out of our house," said Berkowitz.
