Police arrested two women suspected of stealing a bait car in Glendale on Tuesday.

Glendale Police Department deployed one of their bait cars, which contained audio and video devices to record the actions of suspected car thieves, near 48th Avenue and Bethany Home Road.

Police say Melissa Gerhardt, 29, and Christina Alvarez, 18, broke into the bait car and drove away from the location just after 4 p.m.

Gerhardt parked the car in the same area and police say they took the two into custody without incident.

However, the women reportedly told officers that they were both pregnant.

Police took Alvarez to a local hospital as a precaution before transporting her to jail.

Officials say that, due to prior criminal activity, Gerhardt will likely be prosecuted as a repeat offender.
