At about 9 a.m., MCSO received a 911 call from a man who said he was lost in the desert.
The call was traced to cell phone tower that appeared to be within a 50 mile radius of the Barry M. Goldwater Gunnery Range, which is near the Arizona-Mexican border, about 13 miles south of Gila Bend.
At about 1 p.m., MCSO was able to locate one person in the desert on the range.
As a precaution, the active military bombing range was closed.
Later, MCSO received a second 911 call from a person who said a group of people was without water in the hot desert.
MCSO said at about this time a group of undocumented immigrants were found in the area. The group ran towards border patrol agents as they approached.
Two undocumented immigrants are believed to have died, likely from dehydration, according to MCSO. Border patrol agents, sheriff's deputies and DPS officers searched all day for the bodies with the help of helicopters and K9 units.
The search was called off Sunday night. It's scheduled to resume Monday.
The 14 rescued undocumented immigrants were taken to three local hospitals for treatment, according to MCSO.
