The Daily Beast ranks 3 Arizona cities in top 20 most thriving cities list

The Daily Beast ranked three Arizona cities on their top 20 list of America's most thriving cities.

The website researched the 100 largest cities in the U.S. and compared them in categories of population growth, employment and earnings, market strength, infrastructure, and intellectual capital.

Gilbert, Chandler and Scottsdale were ranked at No. 8, 12 and 15, respectively.

Gilbert, with an unemployment rate of 5.7 percent and 93 percent of its population living above the poverty line, followed Plano, Texas, and preceded Orlando, Florida.

Ranked at No. 12, just after Washington D.C. and just before Denver, Chandler has an unemployment rate of 6 percent and 90 percent of its population living above the poverty line, according to The Daily Beast .

At No. 15, Scottsdale has an unemployment rate of 6.1 percent and 91 percent of its population living above the poverty line, according to the list.

The Daily Beast used data from the U.S. Census, the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the Equality of Opportunity Project, Moody's Credit Services, Zillow, and the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
