GASTONIA, NC - A thief stole more than 30 snakes valued at over $30,000 from a reptile store in North Carolina, according to officials.
Police in Gastonia, N.C., said someone broke the glass of Reptile Passions early Sunday morning and made off with 36 snakes.
Reptile Passions uploaded security footage to their Facebook page that showed a masked man stuffing snake after snake into a white bag while talking to someone over a speaker phone.
In one of the recordings, the man is heard saying, “There’s pythons here.” In another video, he can be seen opening drawers and stuffing more snakes into a bag when a person on the phone tells him, “Watch your time, it’s been 60 seconds.”
According to the Gaston Gazette , one of the stolen snakes is a pied tiger reticulated python, one of only 15 of its kind worth $12,000.
Store owner Jonathan McMillian said he believes the thief knew which snakes were of high value as he stole the most expensive snake first.
According to the store’s Facebook page, a reward is being offered for any information leading to the returned snakes.
