Rescued pit bull returns favor by saving boy's life

MINNEAPOLIS - A pit bull adopted hours before his scheduled euthanization returned the favor to his new family by saving their son's life.

Christi Smith rescued TaterTot just hours before he was scheduled to be euthanized by the Minneapolis Animal Care and Control, according to a Fox 9 News report .

A few days later, the 10-month-old pit bull proved his loyalty by alerting Smith in the middle of the night when her son, Peyton, would not wake up.

TaterTot "kept on whining and barking and running between the two of us," she said.

When Smith checked on Peyton, she found that he was barely breathing.

After rushing her son to the emergency room, Smith learned Peyton's blood sugar level was dangerously low.

Despite this, the boy tested negative for diabetes.

Both the cause of Peyton's health concern and how TaterTot detected it remain unknown.
