MMA champ fights off thieves in Houston convenience store robbery

HOUSTON, TX - A group of thieves in Houston picked the wrong convenience store to target when the robbers came face-to-face with a fighting clerk. 

According to The New York Post , Mayura Dissanyake, a Houston gas station worker, is a mixed martial arts fighter from Sri Lanka who has won a national championship five times. 

Surveillance tapes caught Dissanyake's co-worker getting out of a car when he was attacked by the group of thieves who were trying to steal money.

The tape catches Dissanyake running out of the store and kicking and punching one of the robbers, while he pushes the other to the ground. 

The fighting clerk managed to catch one of the robbers who didn't make it to the getaway car. 

According to the report, the man was arrested by police while the others are still being sought.
