Lonesome George to be stuffed, displayed in New York museum

NEW YORK - Famed giant tortoise, Lonesome George of the Galápagos, who passed away in June 2012 is to be stuffed and displayed at the New York City's American Museum of Natural History, according to National Geographic.

After being found in 1971, George was believed to be the last member of his species left alive.

The museum's taxidermists are getting the deceased over 100 year-old animal ready for his museum display this winter.

George will only temporarily be displayed in New York before he is sent back to his real home, the Galápagos Islands.
