SARASOTA, Fla. - A shopper tackled a man as he was trying to rob a drugstore Sunday afternoon, according to Sarasota Police.
Jaanus Jurisoo was shopping at CVS in Sarasota, Florida on Sunday, when a man attempted to rob the pharmacy.
Police said Freddie F. Johnson, 65, walked into the store at 2773 Fruitville Road with a bandanna over his face and threatened the clerk at the entrance.
Johnson went to the pharmacy in the back of the store, implied he had a gun, and demanded all of the Oxycodone and Hydromorphone pills -- both prescription drugs.
Pharmacy staff placed the drugs on the counter, and Johnson demanded a bag.
That's when Jurisoo jumped on Johnson, and fell to the ground. Jurisoo held the man down until officers arrived.
Johnson was charged with one count armed robbery in connection to this case. Johnson is also facing a count of armed robbery in connection to a February 27 robbery at Hedges Pharmacy.
Sarasota Police warned against citizens getting physical with criminals.
"Although we applaud the actions of Mr. Jurisoo in bringing this suspect into custody, we do not encourage or recommend that members of the public take matters into their own hands when they observe a crime." said Captain Patrick Robinson, with the Sarasota Police Department.
