New evidence has led to an arrest in a 5-year-old sexual assault cold case.

On May 9, sheriff's deputies arrested 34-year-old Matthew Cartwright for a sexual assault that happened on April 30, 2012.

Cartwright is suspected of sexually assaulting three girls who were 6, 8 and 10 years old.

In 2012, the girls said they did not know the male suspect that entered their room that night in the 111000 block of East Mountain Gate Place.

Cartwright was booked into the Pima County Adult Detention Center for sexual assault, sexual conduct with a minor and burglary.

The investigation is ongoing.
