'War hero' Kyle Luginbyhl admits he created fake military career

PHOENIX - A self-proclaimed war hero, whose phony story of military heroism was exposed by the ABC15 Investigators , has broken his silence.

Kyle Luginbyhl appeared on the local “Vets on Media” webcast.

He apologized for creating a fake military story in what he called an attempt to stoke his ego and win an award from “The Phoenix Business Journal.”

Luginbyhl was nominated for the “Health Care Hero” award by his former employer, Angel MedFlight.

A press release written by the company touted Luginbyhl’s time as an Army Ranger and tours in Iraq and Afghanistan.

It also claimed he was awarded a Purple Heart and Silver Star.

Luginbyhl was fired by Angel MedFlight after the company discovered his story was made up.

His nomination for the “Health Care Hero” award was also taken away.
