Waiting to get your airbag fixed after that massive Takata airbag recall

You may wonder what the company's recent bankruptcy filing means to you.

The company filed for bankruptcy protection after the largest auto recall ever involving the companies faulty inflators. Takata faces nearly $1 billion in costs and penalties.

So far, only 35% of the 46 million airbags have been repaired.

But experts say right now, it looks like the bankruptcy will not affect people waiting for replacements.

They say most of the replacement inflators are made by other companies. Still, millions of recalls are still planned. The concern is if there are more, automakers may have to shoulder the replacement costs.

The bankruptcy will not affect people who are part of the $125 million set aside for victims.

You can call the Victim Assistance Line toll-free at (888) 549-3945 oremail them.

Unfortunately, more people could be added since so many drivers can't get their replacements.

It's a different story if you're suing or want to sue. Bankruptcy puts a hold on lawsuits. You can still sue automakers since ultimately, they are responsible for what they sell.

But it could be difficult to win since automakers will likely blame Takata for the issues.
