Scammers use celebrity names to steal your money

You know Steve Martin when you see him. But do you know him when you hear him?

Not the comedian; I'm talking about the scammer who is calling around pretending to be from the U.S. Treasury, and threatening to throw you in jail unless you pay up.

But Steve Martin's name isn't the only celebrity whose name has been hijacked to steal your money.

Maybe you've gotten a call from Jack Dawson aka Leonardo DiCaprio's character from the movie "Titanic," or the Rat Packs' Dean Martin--who passed away in 1995.

Regardless of the names, they are all scams.

The U.S. Treasury Department will never call you asking that you wire money or pay with a Green Dot card.

You're not going to jail.

There is no warrant for your arrest, and if you have any doubt hang up and call the agency's legitimate number directly.
