Passing on your social media when you die

You don't want to think about it, but when you pass away, what happens to all of the content you've shared or stored on social media?

Data Doctor Ken Colburn says there is something you can do to keep that information in the family -- appoint a trustee.

With Google, you can go to inactive account manager and choose trustees for various accounts.

If those accounts are not active for a time period of your choice, between three and 18 months, your trustee gets an email.

It says, "John Doe instructed Google to send you this email automatically after John stopped using his account. He's given you access to certain data."

On Facebook, you can have your account deleted. Or you can be memorialized, where friends can visit.

You can also choose a legacy contact allowing the person access including downloading a copy of what you shared.
