Let Joe Know: Wedding venue closes, brides lose deposit - What can you do?

CHANDLER, AZ - I started getting emails from unhappy brides as soon as the popular Chandler wedding venue Inspirador announced its doors would be closing immediately.

Brides and grooms around the Valley who had booked their weddings at Inspirador got an email on Sunday saying the venue was closing due to what they are calling a wrongful foreclosure action taken by their bank, BBVA Compass Bank.

Brides say they won't get their deposits back, and some are losing thousands of dollars.

So, what can you do if you find yourself in this situation?

Inspirador tells me the contracts the couples signed said the deposit they put down was non-refundable.

If that's the case, I don't have a lot of good news for you.

If you still want to try to sue in small claims court , the limit is $2,500 in Maricopa County.

However, if you have wedding insurance, you should be covered.

I usually recommend against buying extra insurance. But, with a wedding, you could be spending a lot of money and planning way in advance, so it's at least worth checking out wedding insurance for your big day.

I found policies that range anywhere from $95 to several thousand dollars, depending on the size and cost of your wedding and the amount of coverage you want.

But be careful with exclusions in wedding insurance policies. Also, check if your homeowner's insurance policy covers liability in areas like this.

Inspirador tells me they want to do the right thing by their customers. They have set up an email address if your wedding was affected, at InspiradorCustomerCare@gmail.com .

You can call their representative with questions at 480-980-9328.
