Getting older is expensive.

Especially if you need to live in an assisted care facility.

The Area Agency on Aging (AAAPHX)says costs range from $700 to $8,000 per month depending on the level of care needed.

Medicare does not cover long term care costs.  And there are very strict medical and income requirements in order for Medicaid to kick in.  The truth is most of us will be responsible for most, if not all, of our long term care costs when we age.

That's why setting aside money, or looking into an insurance policy specifically for nursing home or assisted living coverage is important to do before you need it.

AAAPHX refers families to places where they can receive assistance in finding funding and care for elderly loved ones.

The Arizona Department of Health Services regulates these facilities and you can check for complaints and actions on it's website azcarecheck.com
