Do your research before you hire contractors to prevent problems later

Whether you're hiring a roofer or an attorney, you can pay too much for too little if you're not careful.

So you need to protect yourself by doing your homework BEFORE you hire.

With me, that always begins by getting two or three estimates from friends, family or other sources.

Sometimes, neighborhoods have online forums where you can ask other people who they may have hired for a project.

Then, I take those names, the word "complaints" and run simple internet searches.

I also go to websites like The Better Business Bureau and Ripoff Report and enter the business names.

That can rule some businesses out if you see too many of the same issues.

But, you also want to know if the business requires a license, and you want to check those too for issues.

The Registrar of Contractors handles contractor discipline.

Did you know there is even a state Office of Pest Management that handles pest control companies?

If they are not licensed, some professionals have societies or associations.

Certified Public Accountants has a society that you can check.

For attorneys, check the State Bar of Arizona.

It's so important to know who you're hiring, before you hire.

That way, you prevent a lot of problems later.
