A man with a blood-alcohol level at nearly four times the legal limit caused a crossover collision, killing a mother and daughter last month.
On September 22, Phoenix Police arrested 24-year-old Ivan Garcia-Lugo for manslaughter.
The incident happened just after 10 p.m. on August 6, near 37th Avenue and Thomas Road.
Police say Lugo was traveling westbound and veered into oncoming traffic, colliding with an eastbound vehicle being driven by 52-year-old Ramona Dewhurst.
Dewhurst was pronounced dead at the scene, her adult daughter Kelly was transported to the hospital with critical injuries.
Police say on August 19, Kelly succumbed to her injuries after numerous surgeries to save her life.
Police say Lugo was also taken to the hospital in critical condition. His passenger, a 27-year-old man, suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Police report that Lugo’s blood-alcohol content was recorded as .310 within two hours of the collision.
Lugo was arrested in Goodyear and is expected to face two counts of manslaughter. He is being held on a $100,000 bond.
