A neighbor is being credited with alerting police to a would-be burglar trying to break in to a neighbor's home.

According to court records, around 9 p.m. on Nov. 20, 2016, a resident noticed a man on the roof of his neighbor's house near 7th Avenue and Thomas Road and contacted police.

The neighbor saw the man, later identified as 30-year-old Raymond X. Salazar, jump off the roof into a courtyard, according to records.

A police helicopter hovering overhead reportedly witnessed Salazar shut the doors to the courtyard and then proceed to rummage through dresser drawers, said police in their report.

The suspect was eventually caught, arrested and booked into jail on charges of criminal damage, burglary and possession of burglary tools.

Police said they found tools allegedly used to pry the doors open to the home.

Salazar reportedly told police that he rode by the home on his bicycle and needed a place to sleep for the night.
