After witnessing a drug drop, police were able stop a vehicle and find 30,000 Oxycodone pills inside.

Tempe police report that they were tipped off to a large drug transaction that was going to take place on August 13 in the parking lot of Food City, near 91st Avenue and Thomas Road.

Investigators watched as a courier transferred several packages to a man, later identified as 27-year-old Rosendo Ortiz.

Ortiz was stopped by police a few blocks away. Police searched his car and reportedly found four packages containing about 30,000 Oxycodone pills. Police say the pills are worth about $300,000.

At a search of Ortiz' home, police allegedly found 300 more pills, $15,000 in cash and multiple weapons including an AK-47.

Ortiz reportedly told police that he has been distributing drugs in the Phoenix area for about two months and making $1,600 a month.

He has been charged with conspiracy, illegally conducting an enterprise and various weapons charges.
