A Phoenix man is accused of stealing a massive steel drum worth nearly $30,000 and selling it for scrap.

According to court records, 39-year-old Anthony Leonard Davis stole the drum on May 16 from a site near Central Avenue and Pinnacle Peak Road.

Officials say the 20-foot-long T6 Trommel recycling drum is worth $29,000. Police report that Davis cut the pipe in half and took it to a scrap buyer in West Phoenix, where he allegedly sold the 2,000-pound half-drum for $81.90.

Police say Davis went back and loaded up the other half of the drum onto a flat-bed trailer when he was stopped by police. Davis reportedly told police that he found the drum in the desert so he took it.

Davis has been charged with criminal trespassing, criminal damage and trafficking in stolen property.
